What is the constitutional role of religion in countries where the state is affiliated to or under the jurisdictional control of a specific religion?
Countries are blank if the constitution does not explicitly establish a state religion or a special relationship with a specific religion.
Religion governs public life as well as private life
means that the constitution explicitly establishes a state religion and gives that religion control over public life as well as private life. Jurisdictional control can be established by stating that religious law in the main source of legislation or that legislation cannot contradict religious law, or by requiring individuals to profess a specific religion to be eligible for executive or legislative office.
Religion governs family life
means that the constitution establishes a state religion and that religious courts govern family life. The constitution does not state that religion governs public life.
No jurisdictional control
means that the constitution establishes a state religion, but does not outline the role of that religion in forming legislation or in determining eligibility for public office, or that the constitution establishes a special relationship with one specific religion. Types of special relationships include referencing a traditional religion, acknowledging the historical influence of a specific religion, or stating that the state is founded upon values or principles from a single religious tradition.
