Founded on the urgency of addressing climate change, Work on Climate is an action-oriented community that connects people who want to work on climate. Initiatives include helping to connect ideas to funding, connecting people with impactful climate jobs, and facilitating learning opportunities.
The group’s Climate Fellows program connects nonprofits working on climate with professional volunteers to work on a variety of projects. In the cadre of the Climate Fellows program, WORLD is working with volunteers to build scrapers for hundreds of government law repositories for countries around the world. Based on volunteers’ language and tech skills, they are currently building scrapers to pull down laws that matter to climate change and adaptation across an array of domains. These laws will be stored in a searchable database and made readily accessible.
We hope this project will have impact in a number of areas:
- Learning about legal change happening in countries in real-time
- Learning what works best by comparing laws across countries
- Accelerating the passage of new laws and policies that lead to effective climate mitigation and adaptation
- Monitoring and improving implementation
